From Oslo to Silicon Valley: Our journey in the TINC Program

Innovation thrives at the intersection of ideas, preparation, and the right ecosystem. For Chall, our participation in the TINC program—a five-week journey powered by Nordic Innovation House and Innovation Norway—was more than just a learning experience. It was an opportunity to refine our vision, enhance our pitch, and immerse ourselves in the dynamic culture of Silicon Valley.

A Program Designed for Growth
TINC brought together 11 ambitious companies from Norway, each eager to elevate their storytelling, product strategies, and communication techniques. Over the first three weeks, we joined workshops and remote sessions aimed at improving customer acquisition tactics and crafting pitches to captivate investors. The focus was clear: preparation and precision.
The program also included intensive workshops with venture capitalists, mentors, serial entrepreneurs, and senior executives who challenged us in ways that surpassed our expectations. Their insights pushed us to think differently about our business, refine our strategies, and embrace new perspectives on scaling globally.

From Oslo, we worked tirelessly to hone a concise three-minute pitch that showcased our platform’s potential while anticipating tough questions. This preparation became the backbone of our Silicon Valley experience, where stakes were higher and feedback was sharper.

The program was expertly led by Åse Pettersen Baily, whose leadership and insights were instrumental in making TINC an invaluable experience. Alongside the rest of the dedicated TINC crew and the Innovation Norway team, their support, guidance, and encouragement pushed us to exceed expectations at every step.

Stepping into the Silicon Valley Mindset
The second phase of TINC shifted gears—literally and figuratively—as we traveled to Silicon Valley. It wasn’t just the physical distance from Norway; it was the cultural leap into a mindset focused on rapid growth, ambitious scaling, and embracing risk. Through in-person workshops at the Nordic Innovation House in Palo Alto, we dove deeper into understanding how American investors think differently from their Norwegian counterparts. Silicon Valley celebrates bold ideas and relentless execution, challenging us to think beyond traditional approaches and embrace a global scale of ambition.

Learning, Networking, and Memorable Moments
Networking was a cornerstone of the TINC experience, with opportunities unfolding in some of Silicon Valley’s most iconic spaces. We had the chance to meet fellow entrepreneurs and investors over coffee at the legendary Coupa Café in Palo Alto, a historic hub of innovation. The casual yet dynamic atmosphere made for meaningful conversations and unexpected connections.
We also spent productive time at Shack15, a vibrant coworking space in San Francisco, where networking flowed seamlessly between work sessions. The collaborative environment exemplified the openness and energy of Silicon Valley, making it a perfect place to exchange ideas and build relationships. Among the many memorable happenings during our stay was an evening with fellow Norwegian entrepreneurs, organized by Anders Mjåset of the Norwegian Alliance for Startup & Tech (NAST). This gathering was an opportunity to connect, exchange experiences, and celebrate the unique camaraderie of the Norwegian entrepreneurial community abroad.

Meeting Otto Tschudi
Another key moment was meeting with our long-time friend and Norwegian ski legend Otto Tschudi, who has been a constant source of wisdom and inspiration. Currently serving in the management of Stifel Financial, Otto is one of the most remarkable and well-connected individuals we know. His insights into navigating the business and financial landscape were invaluable as we discussed Chall’s journey and growth plans.

Demo Day: An Out-of-Body Experience
The highlight of the program was undoubtedly Demo Day. Standing in front of a panel of seasoned Silicon Valley venture capitalists, we delivered our carefully crafted pitch. In just three minutes, we had to convey Chall’s value, answer sharp questions, and absorb constructive feedback—all in real time. The experience was described by many as surreal—a mix of adrenaline, focus, and determination. Beyond the pitch itself, the feedback we received helped us see our business through the eyes of world-class investors, sparking ideas for refinement and future growth.

More Than Just Business
Beyond the professional grind, TINC also offered moments of reflection and camaraderie. A visit to the Norwegian Consulate in San Francisco and a brief escape to Yosemite reminded us of the importance of balance. These moments not only recharged our spirits but also reinforced the bond within our team.

Looking Ahead: A New Chapter for Chall
As we wrap up this transformative program, we carry forward more than just lessons learned—we bring a renewed sense of purpose and a sharper toolkit to drive Chall forward. The program validated our business model, refined our pitching skills, and connected us to a network of like-minded innovators and investors.
We owe an immense debt of gratitude to Åse Pettersen Baily, the TINC crew, and the Innovation Norway team for their tireless efforts in making this program such a transformative experience. We are equally thankful to Otto Tschudi, whose guidance and support have been invaluable in shaping our vision during this journey.

Silicon Valley has reshaped how we think about growth, and we’re excited to apply these insights to our upcoming capital round in Q1 2025 and beyond.
For Chall, the TINC experience wasn’t just about preparing for the future; it was about becoming ready to create it.
Stay tuned as we continue to bring competition, connection, and action to the world through Chall.
